ABOUT ME
I started knitting in 2009 as a way to try to keep my hands busy so I wouldn’t snack so much while watching TV with hubby. He can eat anything and does without picking up any weight… me on the other hand!
I had no one to teach me and this was before YouTube (or at least that I knew of) and so I googled how to knit and started a scarf in garter stitch in a black slippery eyelash type yarn.
I got bored pretty quickly and to this day it’s never been completed as I moved on to a big spend at my Local Yarn Store and splurged on Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino to make a baby blanket for my sister’s newborn.
It was a striped blanket.
At this point I had no idea you just carry the yarn up the sides as you go so I had like a zillion ends to weave in as each row was a new colour!
So knitting became a small side hobby and then in 2017 I was diagnosed with cancer and had to spend all day every day at home for 4 1/2 years with the protocol I had to do.
I could go out from time to time but it was so much effort to get organised around the daily program that I mostly gave up on the idea. BUT it meant knitting just became my release.
It was my fun, my stress relief, my joy, and mostly my only way of feeling any kind of accomplishment. I discovered Ravelry forums and KALs and CALs and well, it made me feel like I was at least living! I could escape into a world and virtually knit with the loveliest people and feel connected while sharing all the joys and the journey of the fibre world.
Designing
I don’t know what ignited the idea of designing, but I remember crocheting a unique design for a swap partner and realizing that I had it in me to construct something new and thought it could be a great avenue to explore.
Fast forward to the end of the relentless cancer protocol and I found I wanted to continue the joy of the craft world as a way to earn an income as opposed to the joyless job of bookkeeping. Make no mistake, I still need to do bookkeeping to pay the bills but knowing that there’s another project growing that’s inspiring, creative and exciting helps keep my brain stimulated and gives me a spring in my step.
I’m so excited to get all the designs that have been forming in my mind onto the needles and down on paper and I invite you to join me as I grow as a designer.
I hope to take you on a fun, inspiring and joyful journey! Will you come on the ride with me?
